South Africa’s National Lottery Operator, Ithuba, made world headlines for all the right reasons recently, after the group’s CEO, Charmaine Mabuza was named one of the ten most influential women in the global gaming industry.

iGB, the international gaming publication added Mabuza to its Most Influential Women list, which also included Sarah Blackburn, Director of GameOn Marketing and Melanie Gross, Former VP of online casino and sportsbook at Caesars Interactive.

The women were all picked via a global voting process, and they were especially noted for their powerful contribution to the gaming sector.

Multiple Awards for Ithuba CEO

This is not the first honour bestowed on Charmaine Mabuza.

This year, she was the winner of other prestigious awards, namely the Africa Leadership Awards Women of the Year title, Outstanding Women Leadership title and Top Empowered Business Leader of the Year Award.

Trailblazing Business

Announcing Mabuza as one of the ten most influential gaming executives, iGB called Ithuba a “trailblazing business”.

“It was the first in the world to integrate with banks, and last year alone rolled out an online platform and introduced a random number generator-powered draw system that has since become an industry standard,” it said.

Ithuba called this move the secret to its success in sustaining the lottery during the pandemic.

iGB also pointed out that Ithuba was the first black female-owned and led operator when it won the tender to run the country’s National Lottery in 2015.

Under Mabuza, Ithuba has gone on to win three Positive Role Model categories in South Africa’s Gender Mainstreaming Awards. She also won the Forbes Woman Africa Social Impact Award in 2020 and the Vision 2030 Top Women in Education Award in 2019.

Just one year after becoming the South African National Lottery operator, Ithuba was recognized by the World Lotteries Association as the leading operator on the African continent, and among the top five performing lotteries globally.
