Ithuba’s On the Lookout for R40M Lotto and Powerball Winners
Once more, the official operators of the South African National Lottery, Ithuba, has put out a statement asking for lottery players to check their tickets.
This is after the winners of two recent draws – a Powerball Plus draw and a Lotto draw – failed to come forward to claim their prizes yet. The combined sum of winnings is over R40 million.
The last time that Ithuba asked the public to check their tickets was in December last year.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ithuba mentioned a player who won over R26 million in the draw from January 12th. The winner bought their ticket via the Absa banking app by making a manual selection. They paid R300 for their ticket.
“One winner won over R14 million in the Powerball Plus jackpot from the Tuesday night draw on 11 January. The ticket was purchased in Cape Town, via the quick pick selection with a wager of R30,” the statement read.
Ithuba congratulated the winners and said that there were many ways that players can purchase tickets into the weekly draws. These include through retail outlets, as well as remotely online or through banking partners (Nedbank, Standard Bank, ABSA and FNB).
Powerball Jackpot Rolls Over Again
The January 11th Powerball jackpot sat at over R80 million on its third rollover. Since nobody won it, the jackpot has rolled over again and is nearing R100 million!
Before that draw, Ithuba’s Chief Executive Officer, Charmaine Mabuza called on South Africans to “start off the year with an amazing R80m estimated PowerBall jackpot.”
She also added: “While we are excited that we are starting the year on such a high note, we would like to emphasise that Ithuba is an ethical and credible lottery operator, and we encourage all our players to play responsibly.”
51 New Millionaires in 2021
Last year was a record year for the South African lottery players, when an incredible 51 new millionaires were created.
One of the latest new millionaires is a man from Ekurhuleni who bagged an eye-boggling R63 million on a quick-pick selection for which he paid just R100.
The man nearly lost the ticket and had to put it in his wardrobe so that he didn’t misplace it before claiming his prize.
He has been playing the lottery since 2013 and has stuck to the same numbers all this time. Luck was finally on his side in 2021 when he struck it rich in the December Lotto draw. “I would normally use a combination of my lucky numbers, whether its family birth dates or my children’s age,” explained the winner.
New Sportstake Games
In the meantime, lottery players can add some lotto sports fun to their lottery entertainment by playing the new Ithuba Sportstake games: Sportstake Cricket and Sportstake Rugby. You can also play other games such as Pick3, Raffle and Rapido, along with Sportstake 4, Sportstake 8 and Sportstake 13.
